Peru is a mixture of ethnicities, and the diversity of its culture, geography and nature, gives birth to a variety of art forms. In this way, textile art becomes one way in which each region reflects its social customs and traditions.

Through practical and decorative products, we try to display and bring out the textile art from Peru’s different regions:

LLICLLAS, HUANCAYO

textiles_lliclla

For our first product line we are using the lliclla, a handmade blanket used by woman from the Andes to carry babies. We use the Iliclla with a design coming from Huancayo, Junin, known for its symmetrical design, close-woven patterns, and bright colors.

Nowadays, these blankets have lost the details in its design given that the craftsmen are using less thread to reduce their costs and production time. Some craftsmen are even starting industrial mass production of the lliclla, loosing their long tradition.

Therefore, the Ilicllas that we used are especially manufactured for our products; we are looking to maintain the long artistic tradition in the design and quality of these blankets.

SHIPIBO-CONIBO, PUCALLPA

textiles_shipibo_conibo

We use hand embroidered and painted textiles by Shipibo-Conibo (native group from the Peruvian Amazon) artisans.

The Shipibo-Conibo community characterizes itself for painting, embroidering, knitting, and sculpting their geometric designs on all the objects they interact with, even on their own bodies. For them, visual communication is as important as oral communication; art identifies them and also allows them to keep a symbolic and spiritual relationship with the environment that surrounds them.

WAYRA

Wayra is a Peruvian company that manufactures high quality textile products with natural fibers. Currently caters to the local and international market. Through their community developing projects, they've improved the standard of living of many families in the Andes region.

For our products, we have chosen modern loom designs that combine the different textures of the natural fibers of alpaca, wool, cotton, pima cotton and hemp fiber.
